In The Attic, Who Has A Birthday Today?

Up in the attic, in the kingdom of discarded toys, lives the doll Pomněnka and her three friends: a teddy bear, a knight, and an elf. But the ruler of the Empire of Evil bursts into their world, and the trio, with the help of other attic inhabitants, must rescue Pomněnka. The celebrated Czech animation director Jiří Barta (The Pied Piper, The Vanished World of Gloves) discovered a mysterious world in the forgotten attic of an old house. In a dusty suitcase, four friends have made a cozy home: the doll Pomněnka, the pleasure-seeking and somewhat lazy teddy bear Mucha, the marionette wooden knight Krasoň, and the quicksilver plasticine elf Šubrt. They are cheerful and playful, and every day at breakfast they draw lots to decide whose birthday it is that day. The birthday celebrant plays a little song, the beautiful Pomněnka bakes them a cake, and then she sends her friends off to work. Mucha is the station master at a nearby railway station, Šubrt is the train driver, and the knight Krasoň travels by train each day to the Dragon's Lair, where he wages fierce battle with an inflatable Dragon. But the idyll of their merry games and playful rituals is shattered by the ruler of the Empire of Evil, a bronzed plaster Head. He orders his servants to kidnap Pomněnka, but the friends set out to rescue the doll. Dangerous obstacles lie in wait along the way, and other attic inhabitants come to their aid, led by the clever little mouse Sklodowská. Together they overcome all the traps and snares, and with their wit and courage they defeat the ruler of the Empire of Evil. In doing so they save not only Pomněnka and themselves, but their harmonious home and their good old world, and they discover the true power of friendship.
